House of Assembly

The House of Assembly is known as the lower chamber of Parliament. It currently consists of 39 members, but must not consist of less than 38 members as outlined by the Bahamian constitution. Members of the House of Assembly are known as "Members of Parliament" who are elected by individual constituencies for a term of five years. The purpose of this house is to carry out legislative functions such as making laws.

The House of Assembly currently consists of 39 members. In the 2021 General Election, the Progressive Liberal Party captured 32 seats while the Free National Movement held 7 seats. The House of Assembly must have at least 38 members as outline by the constitution.
